1. What is the overall theme of the project? In what ways can this project facilitate the furthering of social development?

Regarding to the theme of African Digital Art, it is a creative space for digital artists and enthusiasts while it is an online collective platform at the same time. It is a website for them to seek inspirations, showcase their artistries and connect with emerging artists. It facilitates the furthering of social development by providing a diversity of choices and channels for information exchange, such as digital art galleries. Moreover, they are freely to access information and opinions given by different artists, which improve their artwork qualities and provide extra motivations to them. 

The theme of iHub is being a technological innovation community that allow developers, engineers, investors and founders to make references in order to startup their businesses and create new knowledges / technologies. It facilitates the furthering of social development by gathering different talented web users who are interested in culture, density, capital and regulatory environment.


2. What are the contents (written, visual, audio, video etc.) presented in this project? 

According to the project of Africa Digital Art, editor mainly adopting blog form to introduce the theme. Each blog consisted Ariel type of text font, video or image. On home page, there are five main categories of district to distinguish more than 50 artists from Africa. Also, there are full of brief article with headline to read and editor using categories instead of date to divide those articles. From the content, it’s mostly about updating the latest information of Africa artist’s art such as related to visual art, photography, film, installation, design and animation.


Comparing with the project of iHub, editor adopting different text fonts and color contrast to clear divide the headline and summary, iHub is running by a team, they also create a community and offering three type of membership for visitor to join in. They’re aims is about to activate the growth of the Kenyan tech community by connecting people, supporting startups, and surfacing information. Theirs blog and event pages will continually update. From the blog content, editor seems to prefer more adopting large image and short headline to present the tech information on the page. 


3. How are the contents organized or structured?

According to the project of Africa Digital Art, the contents is organized in a neat typesetting. On the first page of the blog, four rows of different pieces of article helps the visitors visiting the website straightforwardly. Besides, it is easy for the visitors to a gaze on the tag of every hashtag of the article. Visitors can find out the relevant content through the hashtag so that they are willing to stay longer on the blog. 



It is the same that the project of iHub also makes the contents in a neater way. The typesetting of those contents keep using the same size pictures with the title of each article. However, the content of this blog is more indirect that visitors need to find out thought the navigation bar.



With the comparison between Africa Digital Art and iHub, the former would be informative that visitors can find the information they want easily while the latter would be mysterious that visitors take time to find the content.

4. How do visitors engage with the project? What is the intended navigation mechanism? Are there any interactive/ user-generated components?

In the project of African Digital Art, all the content were created by users, the digital artist and enthusiasts can create an article to showcase their artistry and connect with emerging artists. The visitors not only can make a comment to discuss their opinions, also they can search the article by hashtag and share the article to social media. Moreover, this project divided the articles into near 70 categories, and they provide dynamic menus to visitors to find what they want to watch; also the project provided the number of view in each article, visitors can chose the most popular article by this function.

In the project of iHub, they provide an open community space for the users to startups to think through their ideas, and develop their solutions, lowering the barriers to entry for many young would-be entrepreneurs. The users can provide some information for the content, for example, there is a page call “Job”, if users are finding people to help them finish the work, and they can make a new post to enlist someone. In the navigation mechanism of this project, there had a distinct menu on the top; it allows users easily to find navigation between pages, also the layout of each page are very clear, users can find information easier through those layout.

5. What kinds of web development tools, applications and technologies are employed?

In the project of African Digital Art, it is an online collective so it develops some convenient tool and technology. There are two menu bars and image slider with navigation buttons on the top. Also, each post has the categories and tags button which provide a clear classification of the information. The users/visitors can share the posts on different social media. The website provides the share button, it links up to other social network as well as there are two notification buttons on comment box, ‘notify me of follow-up comments by email’ and ‘notify me of new posts by email’. When someone leave new comment or post new article, users can get the notification immediately. It is convenient for users to update the posts.

In the project of iHub, some tools and technologies are embedded on the website. Editor added the Google map script in contacts that explain the detail of geolocation. In the uxlab, editor created the image slider to show their information of their team and embedded the bar chart to introduce their team in consu. Also, there are many images and symbols on home page. Editor made the images and symbols into click-able hyperlink. Replace the hyperlink text with some HTML image code. Visitors can click it to jump/navigate to other page. 

6. How would you describe the aesthetics of its design?

In project ‘African Digital Art’, the most distinctive design is that there is a rotating picture frame at the top of each web page, in which the pictures are showing the art work produced by different artists and linked to the designated web pages for more information of the art work. This design makes the website convenient for visitors to surf around. Also, there are two menu bars with different sets of categories in terms of demographic sections and nature of art pieces respectively.

Another project ‘iHub Nairobi’, black is the main color tone of the website, with number of pictures inserted all over the website. The pictures are framed in square shape and served as buttons linking to other web pages, which the arrangement is bit different from the traditional websites we are used to visit. When pointing the mouse to the picture, it instantly turns dark with texts remains white in color. This visual effect of contrasting colors makes the destination to which the button linked more outstanding, accompanied with the organized layout, which make the website much more user-friendly.
